You could be forgiven for forgetting all about Martin Odegaard after he signed for Real Madrid just over a year ago.
Touted as the wonderkid of all wonderkids, the Norwegian playmaker was 15 when he made his full debut for former club Stromsgodset.
And he went on to play just 23 more times before Madrid beat off competition from Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Arsenal and many more top teams to sign him.
Odegaard is still just 17, but he’s made little to no impact with the Spanish giants since the fanfare of his signing despite playing once as a substitute against Almeria in the final game of last season.
That is until this week when he showed everyone that he could actually become a world class player with a Lionel Messi-like performance against Amorebieta for Madrid’s Castilla B team.
His side won the game 4-1 thanks to Borja Mayoral’s goal, a double from Aleix Febas and an Alberto Morgado own goal.
But it was Odegaard’s wonderful assists for Mayoral’s opener and Febas’ goal which all fans will be interested in seeing.
Here he is dancing his way through midfield before playing a beautiful killer ball for Mayoral:
And here’s Odegaard on the second, taking advantage of a bad interception to set Febas up for Madrid’s third:
Does he remind you of a certain Barcelona superstar there?
