Steven Fletcher is About to Make the Oddest Transfer This Deadline Day

Steven Fletcher is said to be travelling to France this afternoon ahead of a proposed transfer to Marseille.

The French giants have been allowed to speak with the Sunderland and Scotland striker about a six-month loan deal, with his contract expiring this summer.

He arrived at The Stadium of Light in the summer of 2012 for a £12 million fee, following the relegation of previous club Wolves, but he failed to hit the heights the club would’ve hoped, scoring 23 league goals in 86 appearances.

Fletcher has fallen out of favour with current Black Cats boss Sam Allardyce, who has played Fletcher just ten times since he took over in early October last year. His last appearance came nearly a month ago in the FA Cup third round away 3-1 defeat at Arsenal.

He had been linked with various moves this month – most notably with Celtic – but it looks like the player, who turns 29 in March, could be heading for pastures new in sunnier climates.

Needless to say, some fans were pretty surprised by his prospective move to Ligue 1…
