Today marked one of the biggest days on the sports calendar: National Signing Day.
This was the first day high school football players could officially sign letters of intent with the colleges of their choice ahead of joining up next year.
Coaches around the States watched intently as some of the hottest prospects in the country made their choices and headed down the path toward a professional football career.
And the player who found himself in highest demand was defensive tackle Rashan Gary, America’s #1 overall recruit.
Gary eventually decided to commit his future to the Michigan Wolverines, coached by former San Francisco 49ers boss Jim Harbaugh.
Gary’s letter of intent can be seen as a huge coup for Michigan as the player is hotly-tipped to make it all the way to the NFL given the right guidance and support.
So, you’d expect Harbaugh to be over the moon that he’d just captured one of the most talented young sports stars in the world.
However, Harbaugh was actually attending Michigan’s Signing With the Stars event when news first broke that Gary had made his decision.
So in typical 2016 fashion, Harbaugh sneaked out the back exit where he found ESPN’s Mike Tricio, who proceeded to show the Michigan coach his mobile phone which apparently confirmed Gary’s arrival:
