Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney’s brilliant breakout season could be about to be disrupted by injury after he suffered a painful looking knock against Kilmarnock.
The 18-year-old has cemented himself in the Hoops’ starting XI since breaking into Ronny Deila’s team earlier in the campaign, and he even managed to earn his first-ever Scotland call-up last week, despite his youthful years.
Tierney was caught on the edge of the Killie penalty area as he launched one of his trademark forward bursts, and sprung to his feet initially.
But a few moments later, the pain didn’t subside, and despite treatment from the medical staff, Dedryck Boyata was summoned as his replacement, forcing Charlie Mulgrew to shift from centre-back to left-back.
His facial expressions looked like Tierney was in a fair bit of pain, and as you can see from the picture above, he was seen with his ankle heavily packed with ice during the first-half’s closing stages.
Celtic fans were understandably concerned:
Hope @kierantierney1 injury isn't too serious.. ??

That ankle twist looks horrendous for young Kieran Tierney! Surprised if there wasn't ligament damage.

Kieran Tierney has run more in the first 10 minutes of this match than I have in the last 10 years…. Sadly, this is probably true.
