Fans Are Over the Moon at Jon Flanagan Being Made Liverpool Captain Today

Jon Flanagan probably had a lot of dark days during his injury hell over the last season or so, but today will have made it all worthwhile.

The Liverpool full-back was out of action for nearly two years after sustaining a serious knee injury whilst on duty with England in 2014, and there was a time when we’re pretty sure he probably wondered when – and if – he’d ever return to the Reds’ first-team.

But return he has, and in the week he signed a new three-year contract at Anfield, Flanagan achieved a boyhood dream by captaining the side at Southampton.

Flanagan missed the two-legged Europa League win over Manchester United after being left out of the club’s European squad, but he returns to face the Saints this afternoon.

And in the absence of usual skipper Jordan Henderson, and vice captain James Milner, Flanagan is the man given the responsibility by Jurgen Klopp – at the tender age of 23.

It’s fair to say the news was greeted with unbridled joy amongst fans:
