Dimitri Payet celebrated his birthday in style tonight, as the France international scored a scorcher of a free-kick against Russia.
The West Ham midfielder has been a revelation in the Premier League this season and has been involved in recent France squads as a result.
And Payet has grasped the opportunity with both hands, giving us a timely reminder of exactly what he can do as he pinged the ball past the helpless Russian goalkeeper:

To make the 30-yard strike all the more impressive, Payet only came on as a substitute two minutes earlier.
Talk about an instant impact:

And Didier Deschamps was equally impressed:

Despite his wealth of experience in Ligue 1 with Saint Etienne, Lille and Marseille, it wasn’t until the 29-year-old moved to the Hammer that Didier Deschamps decided to give Payet a run of games.
And with EURO 2016 taking place in their own backyard, Payet’s current run of form will surely be warmly welcomed by the French fans.
