The African Cup of Nations qualifier between Nigeria and Eqypt ended in controversy last night.
The referee decided to blow the final whistle and call a halt to the action while Mohamed Salah was clean through on goal.
The Roma forward found himself breaking clear of the last defender and was closing in on goal when the referee ended the contest at 1-1, leaving the Egypt players completely incensed.
What’s perhaps even more frustrating is that former Chelsea man Salah had already netted a stoppage time equaliser to pull his side level and could have gone on to win it if the referee hadn’t blown for full-time.
The official was mobbed by the furious Egyptian players after the whistle who were fuming with his decision to call time when he did.
The draw means Egypt are now unbeaten in six matches against the Super Eagles, who haven’t won in this fixture for almost 30 years now.
