Borussia Dortmund fans unveiled a banner yesterday telling Mario Gotze to ‘p*** off’, in the wake of speculation that the midfielder might return to the club.
Gotze came through the ranks at Dortmund, and was one of the club’s most promising stars when they won the Bundesliga in 2011 and 2012 under Jurgen Klopp.
But he departed under a cloud in 2013 when he chose to leave Dortmund for bitter rivals Bayern Munich.
Things haven’t worked out for Gotze at Bayern, with regular first-team game-time hard to come by under Pep Guardiola this season, leading to rumours of departure in the summer.
He’s been heavily linked with a reunion with former manager Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, but there has also been reports in Germany that he could return to Dortmund, with chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke claiming ‘the door remains open’. – something the club’s supporters are far from happy about.
As Dortmund warmed up for their Europa League tie with the Reds on Thursday, with 3-2 victory over Werder Bremen, the Yellow Wall produced a banner, as per the picture above, which read: “Milan or Madrid – Just not Dortmund. P*** off Gotze.”
We’re no experts, but Mario Gotze will probably not be going to Dortmund in the summer.
