Carlton Cole have been involved in a spat with Celtic fans after he was accused of being an “imposter”.
The former England and West Ham forward joined the Hoops last October, after being freed by the Hammers, but has failed to make any sort of tangible impact on Ronny Deila’s side.
In fact, Cole has managed just one start in all competitions and that came against League One minnows Stranraer in the Scottish Cup.
The 32-year-old was given time off recently by Deila and the Celtic hierarchy to spend time down south whilst he dealt with a personal matter, and he hasn’t been seen in action since coming off the bench in the 65th minute against Hamilton in an 8-1 victory at Parkhead. That was way back on January 19.
In total, Cole has managed just five appearances, and today he was accused by several Twitter users – who have since made their accounts private – of being a “waste of wages” and an “imposter”, an accusation he didn’t take kindly to.
Cole still has one more season left to run on his Celtic deal once this season is out of the way, but it looks as though a parting of the ways could be inevitable this summer – particularly if Ronny Deila departs.
