The amount of money Manchester United have spent on agents in the last four months has been revealed, and chief exec Ed Woodward might have some explaining to do.
According to The Mirror, the Old Trafford club splashed out a whopping £10,023,318 on fees to third parties hired by players between October 1 2015 and February 1 2016.
The figure spent by United dwarfs the amounts spent by any other club in England’s top-flight, with Liverpool the closest competitors having spent around £3.5 million less.
But what makes the sum even more remarkable is that United didn’t even make any signings at all during the winter transfer window, meaning the bill most likely relates to purchases made last summer – such as the disappointing duo Memphis Depay and Bastian Schweinsteiger.
They may be the biggest and most lucrative club in world football, but is there any need to fork out such extravagant sums for go-betweens?
