Rangers Boss Mark Warburton Rules Martyn Waghorn Out Of Celtic Clash

Mark Warburton has today revealed that Rangers’ top goalscorer Martyn Waghorn is out of Sunday’s Old Firm match.

The Ibrox boss had hoped the 28-goal hitman would recover from his lengthy injury in time to face Celtic at Hampden in the Scottish Cup semi-final.

But in his pre-match press conference this afternoon, the Light Blues gaffer has ruled out the ex-Wigan forward completely.

BBC Sports journalist Alasdair Lamont has been live tweeting the conference.

Waghorn has been out with a knee injury since February after he landed awkwardly in Rangers’ Cup replay win over Kilmarnock at Rugby Park.

The striker’s injury prompted a furious debate around Scottish football over the use of artificial surfaces in the country’s top flight division.

Warburton is gearing up for his first taste of the explosive Old Firm fixture.

His counterpart Ronny Deila goes into the match with a 100% record against Rangers after their 2-0 win over the Gers in the League Cup semi-final last season.

Former Brentford manager Warburton insists Deila’s men are favourites – but reckons his side can cause an upset.
