A football match really can change dramatically in the blink of an eye – just ask QPR’s fans.
The Rs were in action this evening against high-flying promotion chasers Middlesbrough at Loftus Road, in a match the home side really had to win to keep alive their hopes of sneaking a play-off spot.
A topsy-turvy encounter was expected pre-match and that’s exactly what the fans got, with Jordan Rhodes giving Boro the lead with his first goal since February 9, before Jamie Mackie levelled things before half-time.
The game was evenly poised and on a knife -edge at the start of the second-half, with neither team sure whether to stick or twist.
But before too long, drama ensued, and Middlesbrough were awarded a penalty on 50 minutes for a foul on Rhodes.
Captain Grant Leadbitter took the responsibility but saw his effort brilliantly turned behind for a corner by QPR keeper Alex Smithies, and the home support went into wild celebrations, taunting Leadbitter for the miss.
But their cheers and abuse were short-lived, as Leadbitter took the resulting corner and found Gaston Ramirez, who coolly finished to make it 2-1 after all.
As you can imagine, Leadbitter enjoyed getting his own back:

And it wasn’t just the man himself – a lot of fans watching at home seemed to get a kick out of Leadbitter’s celebrations:
