Ida Keeling crossed the finish line in the Masters Mixed 100m dash Championship event in a time of 1:17.33 to set a new world record at the 122nd Penn Relays at the University of Pennsylvania’s Franklin Field. The centenarian received a standing ovation by the thousands in attendance and even had some strength remaining to pull out a few push-ups after her victory.
The New York City resident set a new world mark for a runner 100 years of age and older and also holds the record for the fastest American woman aged between 95 and 99 in the 60-meter dash (29.86 seconds).
“I’m a nice example of what you can do for yourself, and I thank God everyday for my blessings,” she said after her race.
The third and final day of the annual event also saw some long-standing records broken throughout the day’s remaining 113 events with superb performances from high school and college students, as well as elite athletes competing in the coming Rio Olympic Games.
