It’s always interesting to see what the biggest football players will don on their feet for a major tournament.
The tournament comes as an ideal showcase for adidas and other boot brands to show off their latest innovations to millions of interested fans around Europe.
And they’ve certainly not disappointed with the mercury pack.
It includes three types – with the X, ACE and Messi getting an even flashier makeover – and comes in the debut of their First Never Follows film series.

Starting with Real Madrid and Wales attacker Bale, he’ll be wearing the X16+ PURECHAOS which come in chrome and are designed with speedy players in mind.
As adidas put it, their “DYNAMIC TECHFIT COMPRESSION upper keeps wear-in time to a minimum by moulding perfectly to the foot. The NON STOP GRIP (NSG) finish and TECHFIT lacing system provides a glove-like fit, while the PURECUT SOCK SYSTEM – designed to hide the laces – offers an improved aerodynamic effect; a key element for explosive players. The updated SPRINTFRAME outsole delivers traction and stability for high-speed movements”.
Moving on to the AC16+ PURECONTROL and what both Ozil and Pogba will be wearing in action for Germany and France respectively. Like the boots before, they come in chrome and are designed for those controlling the game.
Again, adidas make a big play on the technology involved in creating the boot, saying: “A Primeknit upper and NON STOP GRIP delivers an unrivalled surface for close ball control, ensuring players’ touch is flawless no matter the playing conditions. The PURECUT upper creates an uninterrupted striking surface, whilst the lightweight SPRINTFRAME provides the ultimate level of stability.”
There’s also the MESSI 16+ PUREAGILITY boots in the pack, and Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi will have those on his feet when he leads Argentina at the Copa America this summer.
Watch out for the boots first being debuted at the Champions League final next weekend before getting a bigger roll-out at the major international tournaments this summer.
