Eric Cantona Describes the Inch-Perfect Goal He Wishes He’d Manage to Score

Eric Cantona turned 50 today and despite the fact he’s getting on a little bit, the Manchester United legend is cooler than ever.

Cantona played his last match for United way back in 1997, almost 20 years ago, but when the great man speaks, fans of his former club shut up and listen.

And to mark his notable birthday, the Frenchman has been taking a stroll down memory lane, and looking back on some of his greatest moments with United’s in-house TV channel MUTV.

But the conversation soon turned to one achievement he didn’t quite make, and the one goal he never scored but wishes he had.

His response was absolutely perfect.

He didn’t reference any other player’s goal – oh no.

Cantona had a fantasy goal all worked out in his head; he knows exactly how it would go if he could go back in time and pull on the boots once again.

He said, via The Mirror: “We have 11 players.

“The ball starts from the goalkeeper. He gives it to the right-back. He gives it to the centre-half, then to the other centre-half, and then to the left-back…”

Cantona went on to name every position in the team, before calmly adding: “It’s not very spectacular.

“But we have never seen this goal. Never in the history of football.”

They don’t make him like them any more.
