Thursday just a whole lot better if you’re an Everton fan after news broke of Roberto Martinez‘s sacking being near.
Reports from a number of media outlets say the Toffees have decided to part company with their Spanish manager and are working on a severance package.
That comes less than 24 hours after their demoralising 3-0 defeat to Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
The writing has appeared to be on the wall for Martinez as his side lurched from one disappointing result to the next throughout this season.
Everton sit 12th in the table, way out of the European reckoning, having picked up just one victory from their last 10 games.
But last night’s defeat to relegation-threatened Sunderland was the final straw for many disgruntled supporters as well as the club’s board.
The sacking hasn’t been officially announced by Everton, but everything points towards it being made public later this afternoon:
Martinez will leave Everton after three years at the club in which he impressed at times, but found it too difficult to consistently win games.
The Toffees board backed him with big money signings like Romelu Lukaku, James McCarthy, Oumar Niasse and Ramiro Funes Mori.
But he was unable to win any trophies while Everton boss and will leave Goodison Park to the delight of the majority of supporters.
Everton fans – are you sad to see Martinez go in any way?
