When Emre Can limped off the field against Borussia Dortmund after rupturing ligaments in his ankle, Liverpool fans would have been forgiven for expecting his season to be over.
Especially after, several media outlets reported that Can faced a four-week spell on the sidelines.
However, the German international has seemingly pulled off a dazzling recovery, and could even play a part in this week’s Europa League match against Villarreal, as per the Express.
Can’s presence has been sorely missed in recent games, with the Reds winning just two of their last five without the talented midfielder.
So with reports linking Can to a surprising return to first-team action, Liverpool fans on Twitter were understandably buzzing with the news:
Emre Can was out for the rest of the season a week ago, he's back in training and in contention to play on Thursday. Fucking monster.

Can't we give Emre Can a painkilling injection and start him on Thursday? We need that tank back in our team, he's sorely missed! #LFC

I'd start a 60% fit Emre Can. Have to risk it all against Villereal. Our season is hanging on this one game.

Liverpool trail Villarreal 1-0 after the first leg in Spain, however with the return leg at Anfield being the first game the club have played at home since the Hillsborough verdict, there will surely be a special atmosphere for the game.
