Manchester City legend Shaun Goater has warned Everton striker Romelu Lukaku to think hard before deciding on his next career move – or risk becoming the new Wilfried Bony.
Lukaku has enjoyed a stellar season at Goodison Park, scoring 25 goals in all competitions for a side that has struggled to achieve a top-half finish in the Premier League.
The Belgian forward’s impressive campaign has seen him linked with moves to the likes of Manchester United and Bayern Munich, as well as a return to former club Chelsea.
But as a former striker himself, Goater believes it could be a mistake for Lukaku to move, and cites Bony as a prime example.
Bony was a fans’ favourite and automatic starter for former club Swansea City before moving to City for £30 million last year. Since then he has endured a torrid time at the Etihad, with his short spell set to come to an end this summer.
Goater doesn’t want to see the same thing happen with Lukaku.
Speaking exclusively to 888sport, he said: “It’s interesting because Lukaku could be like a Wilfried Bony. He could be thinking that he wants to go to United to win things but he should also reflect on players like Bony and consider if he goes there will he be playing regularly?
“He looks like a player who can get United a lot of joy but it depends on the philosophy of the team.
“LVG controls the tempo of the game so it’s not the in-your-face, get bodies in the box way and I don’t think Lukaku will suit them.
“He is a quality striker but he needs a lot of action and balls coming in around him.”
What do you think of Goater’s comments? Is he right?
