Real Madrid midfielder Isco cannot be heard shouting his dog’s name in the streets by possible football fans – because the pet is called Messi.
Despite costing Los Blancos an arm and a leg when he moved from Malaga several years ago – as well as playing his part in Real’s famous ‘La Decima’ European Cup win in 2014 – Isco really has named his dog after Barcelona’s greatest-ever player.
The Spanish international – who has been linked heavily with Manchester City in the past – is trying to shift the blame onto family members for the bizarre choice of name but we’re not too sure that will wash with the regulars at The Bernabeu.
Isco has taken drastic steps to distance himself recently, and reveals that he has been refusing to walk it.
Speaking on a Spanish TV show, via The Mirror, he said: “I have to say that calling the dog Messi was more my brother and dad’s idea than mine.
“I’m a Madridista and that’s that. I don’t walk [the dog] any more. Imagine me calling him ‘Messi’ in the streets…”
That’s a fair point.
Can you imagine Rangers’ new signing strutting about Govan with his pet labrador Larsson? Nope, neither can we.
