Some Celtic fans will be delighted when they read Steven Fletcher playing down a move to Parkhead this summer.
The transfer window opening in July means the annual rumours about the Scottish striker moving to the champions in his homeland have started up again.
Fletcher left Hibs in 2009 to play his football in England – appearing for Burnley, Wolves and Sunderland before finishing last season on loan at Marseille.
But he’s out of contract now and that will inevitably lead to the Celtic rumour intensifying until his future is sorted out.
We told you how Hoops supporters were seriously underwhelmed about hearing the link to Fletcher again this summer.
And now we can give them good news – as Fletcher has played down returning north to sign for the Hoops.
Speaking yesterday about Celtic he said, per skysports.com: “I don’t know, they obviously have a new manager (Brendan Rodgers) so that is up to him.
“But I haven’t had any contact with Celtic.
“I know everyone likes to think I have, even in recent times when I have been linked with them there has never been any solid connection with me and them.
“I am going to take myself away with my family and relax a little while before I start thinking about anything else.”
When you see the response Celtic fans have had to talk of signing Fletcher then you can’t help think the striker’s comments will be celebrated by many:
Fletcher has had a decent career since moving to England, earning a few big money moves and having some good goalscoring seasons.
But he’s found life difficult in front of goal over recent years and managed just four in all competitions during his time with Sunderland and Marseille in this campaign.
Celtic fans – would you welcome Fletcher at Parkhead?
