Mario Gotze Compares His Stuttering Form to a Dog Urinating on a Tree

Mario Gotze has taken a philosophical approach to dealing with criticism of his form during Euro 2016 – by comparing himself to a dog urinating on a tree.

The Germany attacking midfielder has started both of his country’s opening group matches so far, with the Germans securing a 2-0 win over Ukraine and a 0-0 draw against Poland.

Gotze has been deployed in an unusual ‘false nine’ position, rather than his more familiar, deeper role.

Playing effectively as a striker has seen the Bayern Munich man criticised for being ineffective so far, and led to calls for Mario Gomez to replace him in this week’s final group game against Northern Ireland.

But if the stick is getting the 24-year-old down, he certainly isn’t showing it, and decided to put another spin on things when speaking to the media:

Hmmm, quite the comparison. We think we get what he means…sort of.

Do you think Gotze deserves to keep his place?
