Romelu Lukaku is staking a real claim to be Belgium’s number one striker with another goal this evening.
The Everton hitman was probably already set to start for the Red Devils when Euro 2016 kicks off for them against Italy a week on Monday.
He’s had a strong season for Everton, despite the team’s poor overall performance, scoring 25 goals in all competitions.
But Lukaku does have competition from Christian Benteke, Divock Origi and Michy Batshuayi.
So he would have had to hammer home to national team boss Marc Wilmots that he’s the main man in their three friendlies before the competition – and that’s exactly what he’s done.
He netted in warm-up games against Portugal and Switzerland over the last week and he’s got on the scoresheet again in Belgium’s home clash with Norway.
It took just two minutes for Lukaku to make his presence felt, powerfully running through the Norwegian defence to hammer home:
It would be difficult to see Lukaku not starting for Belgium against Italy – but then he’ll have to prove himself all over again to help one of the pre-tournament favourites compete for the trophy.
