Roy Hodgson at England Press Conference: “I Don’t Know What I’m Doing Here”

Roy Hodgson broke his media silence this afternoon following England‘s embarrassing Euro 2016 exit – and started by saying he had no idea why he was there.

Hodgson stepped down from his role as England boss last night, immediately after having watched his under-performing stars somehow lose their last-16 match to Iceland.

He read out a statement a short time after the full-time whistle in Nice, confirming that he and his assistants Gary Neville and Ray Lewington would be leaving their posts, in accordance with their contracts running out.

But Hodgson refused to add to his pre-prepared statement and refused to take any questions from the waiting press pack last night, or broadcasters ITV – much to the annoyance of several high profile journalists:

But after probably the worst night’s sleep of his adult life, Hodgson decided to face the music this afternoon at England’s Chantilly training base, but he seemed in an absolutely stinking mood:

Hodgson spoke relatively openly about the humiliating defeat to the Nordic minnows, but failed to go too in-depth in his assessment, or point the finger at any of his squad:

The curtain now comes down on the Hodgson era, and in a matter or weeks, his successor will be unveiled, but what do you make of the outgoing manager’s comments?
