Turkish hopes of making the last 16 of Euro 2016 all but ended tonight with the devastating loss to a very strong Spanish side.
Fatih Terim’s men lost their opening game of the tournament in France to Croatia and were just as disappointing with their performance tonight.
Spain outplayed them all night and quite rightly came out as 3-0 winners – although it could have more had they taken other chances and increased the tempo in the second half.
Turan was disappointing against Croatia in the opening game and the Turkish captain was just as ineffective tonight.
And the Turkey fans inside Allianz Riviera had no problem telling the man, who was expected to be their best player, he wasn’t good enough.
They booed him more and more as the game went on – to the point where his every touch was jeered in the second half:

It obviously got to Turan, with the Barcelona midfielder stopping on the ball to give a thumbs up to the Turkish section of the stadium:

Club team-mates Jordi Alba and Andres Iniesta looked as if they were consoling Turan at the full-time whistle, both obviously aware of the boos.
It would have been disappointing for Turan to hear considering the service he’s given to Turkey over the last 10 years.
He’s come off the back of a disappointing personal season at Barcelona and that poor form has continued into Euro 2016.
One man who isn’t prepared to get on his back, though, is Ilkay Gundogan – the German international, who was born to Turkish parents, sending a tweet to Turan following the defeat to Spain:
Milli takım bugün iyi değildi ama beni tribünler çok daha fazla üzdü – çok yazık!@ArdaTuran abi, seninle gurur duyuyoruz ve hep arkandayız.

Translated, Gundogan wrote: “National team wasn’t good today, but it’s a shame a lot more are upset in the stands! @ArdaTuran Dude, we’re proud and we’re behind you all the time.”
Turkey team-mate Nuri Sahin added to the support of Turan, saying:
Sahin on the boos for Turan: "I've known him for 15 years. He gives everything for his country. It's sad." #ESPTUR

Turan obviously wasn’t happy at the treatment he received from the Turkey fans and it will be interesting to hear his reaction after the game.
