The Italian manager has only been at the club since the start of July, having lead his new team in friendlies with Rapid Vienna and RZ Pellets already.
But today’s International Champions Cup game with Liverpool in Pasadena, USA, is his first game against high quality opposition.
And it’s given an indication of how Chelsea will look – particularly in big games – this season.
Truth be told, no-one should be surprised that Conte has set his team up to be compact and frustrate Liverpool, who have been the better team on the ball.
He led Italy to the quarter final of Euro 2016 playing in exactly the same way, after all.
It’s 1-0 to the Stamford Bridge outfit courtesy of Gary Cahill’s 10th-minute header and they’ve never really looked like conceding an equaliser.
