Close Up of Cristiano Ronaldo’s Leg at Tackle Impact Explains Injury

A close up of Cristiano Ronaldo‘s leg as Dimitri Payet tackled him during the Euro 2016 final explains why the Portuguese superstar had to go off injured.

The first half of the showpiece at the Stade de France was marred by Ronaldo going off after 24 minutes with a knee injury.

It came after what looked like an innocuous challenge from Payet, with Cristiano continuing for Portugal before going down and receiving treatment while looking emotional.

He was strapped up and sent back on, but lasted just a few minutes more before being replaced by Ricardo Quaresma.

When you see the clash between Payet and Ronaldo’s left knee stopped and closer in, it’s no surprise that the Real Madrid man was unable to continue:

As you can see, Ronaldo’s left foot looks planted to the ground when Payet collides with him – and we wouldn’t be surprised if the Portuguese man ended up with a longer term injury as a result.

Portugal have managed to cope without their star man though, going into the break at 0-0 and looking like they could spring a surprise in the second half.
