Francis Coquelin Reveals on Arsenal’s Snapchat He’s Being Converted Into Centre-Back

Francis Coquelin could be about to become Arsenal‘s emergency centre-back, after he revealed on the club’s Snapchat account that he’s been used in defence during training games.

The Gunners are currently in California preparing for the Premier League season kicking-off next month, and will take on an MLS All-Stars team in the early hours of Friday morning.

In all likelihood, Arsenal could line-up with new signing Rob Holding and Calum Chambers at centre-back, after injuries to Per Mertesacker, Gabriel and Laurent Koscielny.

That has forced Wenger to turn to Coquelin, who has played as a defensive midfielder since establishing himself in the squad at the start of 2015.

Coquelin’s change of position is likely to be just one of several short-term options Wenger considers, with full-backs Mathieu Debuchy and Nacho Monreal among those who could be asked to fill in having done so in the past.

But, whether it’s short-term or not, some fans are terrified at the mere prospect:

What do you think? Would it really be that bad?
