John Cena‘s opening monologue at the ESPYs was exactly what American sport’s biggest award show needed.
On a night where the majority of the top sportsmen and women in the US come together to celebrate another big year, the WWE superstar stole the show early on with his speech.
He started things off questioning why he was picked to host the show, citing the scripted nature of WWE as a potential criticism from other sports stars.
But, as Cena states, there are some similarities between wrestling and other major sports – namely the NBA and NFL.
And Cena doesn’t miss in his monologue, throwing some shade towards LeBron James, Kevin Love, Steph Curry, Kobe Bryant, Peyton Manning and Odell Beckham Jr among others.
Even Rory McIlroy and the other Irish golfers pulling out of the Olympics this summer get a mention.

Fair play to Cena – he might be a wrestler, but he can definitely entertain!
