Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has slammed the potential transfer fee that Manchester United are willing to pay Juventus for midfielder Paul Pogba.
Recent reports claim that Jose Mourinho is close to sealing a return to Old Trafford for the France international, yet neither club has confirmed a move is imminent.
However, Scholes has blasted the move, claiming that Pogba isn’t worth his price tag as he doesn’t offer the same going forward as Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi do.
Speaking to Sport Witness, Scholes said: “I just don’t think he is worth £86m.
“For that sort of money, you want someone who is going to score 50 goals a season like (Cristiano) Ronaldo or (Lionel) Messi.”
The ex-England international added, “Pogba is nowhere worth that kind of money yet.”
Scholes, who made 499 appearances for United during his career, does have fond memories of playing alongside a young Pogba before he left the club for Juventus in 2012.
“He was a very talented young player, I played with him and I knew how good he was.
“He played for the first team maybe once or twice, but from my understanding he was asking for too much money.
“Okay, he has gone on to great things. I think certainly there has been a lot of improvement. He needed to improve if he is going to be a player worth £86m.”
Despite Scholes’ comments, it will be a massive boost for United if they can bring in the talented 23-year-old.
