The 20-year-old centre-back was chosen to start against Bundesliga giants Wolfsburg at Parkhead last week, and retained his place this afternoon against the Premier League champions.
The Foxes took on the Hoops at Parkhead in a friendly match as part of the International Champions Cup, and it was a tasty contest from the outset.
Chances were few and far between in the first half, but Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez gave his side the lead with a stunning goal one minute into the second half.
It looked as though the Foxes would go on and win it from there, but O’Connell popped up to score his first goal for Celtic – and he did it in style:
With centre-back proving a problem position for Rodgers, it could be that O’Connell has staked a serious claim to be a first-choice starter.
