Eric Cantona has today made a bizarre video announcement – declaring himself in the running for the vacant England manager’s job.
The Manchester United legend has told the world that he wishes to be considered as a candidate to replace Roy Hodgson as Three Lions boss.
Hodgson stood down from his post in the immediate aftermath of England’s humiliating 2-1 defeat to Iceland in the last 16 of Euro 2016.
And the hunt is now on for the FA to find their new man to lead the English national side in the qualifiers for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Step forward, Cantona.
The 50-year-old Frenchman has featured in a strange video insisting that he has “heard the call” from English football chiefs and now feels the time is right for him to step up to the plate.
The former United striker vows – if chosen for the job – never again to lose against a “small frozen island” – and even refers to him as the new manager.
Cantona insists he is made for the job because he was born in 1966, the year England won the World Cup.
And he also pledges never to criticise captain Wayne Rooney.
The tongue-in-cheek clip – which also sees Cantona topless for a few split seconds – is likely to turn some heads but whether he is serious or not remains to be seen.
