Bastian Schweinsteiger to Celtic? Surely Not…

Social media is full of people speculating about Bastian Schweinsteiger moving to Celtic – but only if the Hoops make it into the group stages of the Champions League.

The German midfielder is into the second of a three-year deal at Manchester United, but has no future at Old Trafford following the arrival of Jose Mourinho.

The World Cup and Champions League winner has been frozen out by the Portuguese coach and made to train with the club’s reserve players, meaning he’ll probably be looking for a new club before the transfer window slams shut at the end of this month.

Somehow, Celtic have been thrown into the mix, with this tweet thought to be where the speculation originated:

Of course, the literal translation of ‘Schweinsteiger’ is pg farmer or pig handler, which why the ‘pigsick’ remark is leaving people thinking the player in the frame is the former Bayern Munich midfielder.

Celtic play Israeli champions Hapoel Beer Sheva for a place in the Champions League group stages with the first leg next Wednesday, but whether or not they win or lose, there’s a lot of supporters struggling to believe these Schweinsteiger rumours:

He’s just turned 32, so probably still young enough to do a job for Celtic – but is there any way this could be true?

And is he even the type of player Brendan Rodgers would go for?
