The transfer window closes in ten day’s time and Celtic fans are hoping their club could be about to pull a rabbit out of the hat – by signing Everton midfielder James McCarthy.
There appears to be uncertainty surrounding McCarthy’s future at Goodison Park following the arrival of new manager Ronald Koeman – who substituted McCarthy during the first-half of Saturday’s 2-1 win over West Brom, claiming the decision was down to “tactics”.
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has gone on-record as saying he wants two more players added to his squad before the transfer window slams shut on August 31 – so could McCarthy be one of them?
The 25-year-old undoubtedly has the quality to be a hero at Celtic Park, and could be a long-term replacement for Scott Brown.
Moreover, McCarthy came through the ranks at Hamilton Accies and the Republic of Ireland international is known to be a boyhood Celtic supporter.
The only think that could scupper the deal is money, considering Everton paid Wigan £13 million for McCarthy in 2013, but should Celtic see off Hapoel Be’er Sheva on Tuesday and reach the Champions League group stages then the Glasgow club would be due TV and prize money in the region of £15 – £20 million.
It might be a fanciful idea – but you can’t stop these fans from dreaming:

Would love the James McCarthy rumours to be true but could money be better spent in other positions? We have Brown, Rogic, Bitton, McGregor
