Celtic Fans Rejoice as Efe Ambrose Dropped From 18-Man Squad to Face Astana

Celtic face a do-or-die Champions League tie against Astana at Parkhead this evening, and a lot of supporters seem to think they already have an early advantage – because Efe Ambrose isn’t in the squad.

The Nigerian centre-back has been at the centre of countless defensive errors over the last year or so, with the latest coming in the weekend’s friendly against Barcelona.

Yet, no matter how great his errors of judgement, the 27-year-old somehow always seems to find a way of sneaking into the Celtic team.

Not tonight, however, with manager Brendan Rodgers putting his foot down and leaving the error-prone defender out of his entire match-day squad, meaning there wasn’t even room for him on the bench:

Drawing 1-1 from the first leg in Kazakhstan, Celtic will know that they’re not out of the woods yet, and can take no chances in front of a packed home crowd tonight.

New signing Kolo Toure takes Ambrose’s spot on the subs bench…and it’s fair to say a lot of people are pretty happy about it:

What do you think? Is leaving out Ambrose key to seeing Celtic progress?
