Sunderland named a fresh, young and inexperienced line-up for their trip to Manchester City this afternoon, with one name in particular standing out.
The Black Cats went into their first Premier League game of the new campaign under the guidance of new manager David Moyes for the first time, with the Scot looking to put his own stamp onto the team.
His starting XI included Donald Love, 21; Duncan Watmore, who is 22; and a young American midfielder named Lynden Gooch, who is 20.
Gooch was brought to the club from America and is thought to be one of the club’s more promising prospects, and he certainly put in a mature shift that belied his years at the Etihad today.
But, as you can probably imagine, the more immature onlookers couldn’t care less about his performance – and simply couldn’t get past his last name:
Gooch must be sweaty after that first half…… #SAFC

There's a player for Sunderland with the last name Gooch. Unfortunate or what.

Really hope there isn't a collision between Willy and Gooch. Nobody wants to see that.

Gooch up against Willy at the Etihad. Could be an uncomfortable afternoon for Sunderland

David Moyes picks Gooch in Sunderland's midfield. Not quite in the hole, just behind it.

You'd be a bit buried if your surname was Gooch

I'd hate to smell that gooch who plays for Sunderland

So immature, eh?
Although, to be fair, it’s hard not to crack a smile at some of those comments!
