Ian Holloway: “Ross McCormack Could Play Alongside Messi and Ronaldo”

Ian Holloway had football fans scratching their heads tonight, when he announced live on Sky Sports that Ross McCormack was so clever that he could play alongside Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Scotland international has just completed a £12 million transfer from Fulham to Aston Villa, having scored more than 100 goals in the English Championship since 2008.

The move has propelled Villa to the bookies’ favourites to go straight back up to the Premier League, and Ian Holloway reckons McCormack is a snip at £12 million.

Speaking as a pundit ahead of tonight’s clash between Newcastle and Fulham, Holloway raved about the deal – before seriously mentioning McCormack in the same breath as two of football’s all-time greats:

Now, we all love having a bit of Ian Holloway in our lives, but surely this is a step too far, no?

Unless – have we got this wrong? What do you think? Maybe Ross McCormack is one of football’s true underappreciated talents. Or maybe not.
