UFC Featherweight champion Conor McGregor clearly hit a nerve when he threw some serious shade at WWE recently, claiming all the company’s wrestlers are “dweebs” and “p*ssies”.
And WWE legend Kurt Angle is just one of several high-profile grapplers who has taken exception to McGregor’s comments.
Angle, who won a freestyle wrestling gold medal at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, believes that one present-day wrestler could give McGregor a run for his money.
Yes, the 47-year-old, who left WWE in 2006, has tipped former WWE Worldy Heavyweight champion Dolph Ziggler to compete with McGregor.
Angle told Sports Illustrated, “Dolph Ziggler was a great amateur wrestler. If he trained for six months, Dolph could give Conor a good run for his money.”
Angle added: “I’d take him down, then ground and pound him until I knocked him out. Conor is a polished fighter, but with my size, I would overpower him. It wouldn’t be that difficult for me.”
The four-time WWE champion then took aim at McGregor’s comments about the company, slating the Irishman for his offensive take on the business.
“Conor is either the most loved or the most hated fighter in UFC, and that’s a credit to him,” said Angle.
“But to cross over into another career, into pro wrestling–something you don’t even know–and call WWE wrestlers ‘p*ssies’? That’s offensive. Don’t talk about someone you don’t know.”
Would you back any WWE superstars past or present against McGregor?
Or is he in a different league?
