Celtic are taking on Inter Milan in the final match of the International Champions Cup, and manager Brendan Rodgers has sprung a surprise by handing striker Nadir Ciftci the captain’s armband – leaving supporters in a state of shock.
With a crucial Champions League qualifier against Israeli side Hapoel Beer Sheva coming up on Wednesday, Rodgers understandably opted to field a side made up of players on the fringes of the first-team and players still in need of game time following the summer break.
With no Leigh Griffiths, Scott Sinclair or Patrick Roberts involved, Turkish striker Ciftci was chosen to lead the line against the Italian side in Limerick, but he was also handed the responsibility of being captain, ahead of Emilio Izaguirre.
It may only be a friendly match, but some fans found the decision inexplicable:
As if Ciftci is our fucking captain for tonight, why? He's barley played for us? Give it to Emilio!

Rodgers making Ciftci the captain seems like a massive troll. Don't know of who though.

Ciftci was something of a laughing stock last season as he was sent out on loan in his homeland, but could he have a future under Rodgers?
And are fans reading a bit too much into him being handed the captaincy?
