No One Can Believe Roberto Martinez is the New Belgium Manager

Roberto Martinez is back in football tonight after being appointed as the new manager of the Belgian national side – and just about no one can believe it.

The Spaniard has been out of work since being sacked by Everton in May, following a desperately disappointing season which saw the Toffees finish eleventh in the Premier League.

He replaces Marc Wilmots, who was given the boot following Belgium’s Euro 2016 exit to Wales in the quarter-finals of the competition, and he was always accused of failing to properly extract the talent from a star-studded side.

Two quarter-final exits at two consecutive major tournaments wasn’t enough to save Wilmots’ job, but is Martinez anything of an upgrade?

He may have won the FA Cup during his time at Wigan, but he was also relegated with them, and his Everton side were pretty naive in defence last season.
