If Ashley Cole wasn’t already one of the most hated men in football, this clip will surely cement his place in that particular hall of fame.
The former England full-back became public enemy number one amongst Arsenal fans a decade ago when he moved from the Gunners to Premier League rivals Chelsea – and slammed Arsenal’s contract offer of £60,000 per week.
Now playing in MLS for LA Galaxy, Champions League-winner Cole is apparently attempting to extend his reputation to the United States, as one very unlucky pigeon can confirm.
Before Saturday’s match against New York City FC and former Chelsea teammate Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole was seen warming up by hitting balls across the pitch dangerously close to an injured pigeon which was hobbling about in front of him.
The players, which included Alan Gordon and Baggio Husidic, continued to pass between each other and then the inevitable happened – the smashed into the defenceless pigeon.
As Ashley Cole put his hands to his head, someone filming the incident from the crowd shouted ‘they killed him!’, as you can hear in the clip above.
RIP pigeon. You’ll always be with us.
