Arsenal supporters’ worst fears were realised earlier today when it emerged that midfielder Francis Coquelin looks like being out for months rather than weeks following the knee injury he picked up against Chelsea on Saturday.
Or, at least, you’d think it was Arsenal supporters’ worst nightmare.
The Frenchman has been in outstanding form for Arsene Wenger’s side since the start of the Premier League season, evidenced by his recent displays.
But during the weekend win over their London rivals, Coquelin squirmed in pain after a first-half collision which seems to have left him with knee ligament damage.
He left the Emirates Stadium in a knee brace, and now, according to the Guardian, looks set to be out for at least two months.
In the Premier League, Coquelin has made more interceptions and won more aerial duels than Matic despite having played 1356 MINUTES LESS.

On the face of it, the news is disastrous for Gunners’ fans, many of whom have been crying out for a player like Coquelin for years, but it turns out some aren’t too bothered by the setback – because it paves the way for new signing Granit Xhaka:
@livlan Really gutted about Coquelin. Every single player on the pitch will have to work harder to make up for his absence. It'll cost us.

Coquelin is a passion merchant. Always has the most lit celebration when we score/win. Would have loved to see his reaction after our result

Coquelin better not be out injured for 2 months..

It looks bad for Coquelin. Could miss longer than expected…

If francis Coquelin is out injured then Arsenal will miss him much because no one can play that 4 like him in the squad.

The fans who are happy that Coquelin is injured are a disgrace to the club. We all wanna see Xhaka, but you should never celebrate injuries.

We have replacements but i trust coquelin more. He doesn't have a big physique like xhaka but he has the brains for the job

Coquelin out til the new year viva la Xhaka ??
— Butter Side Up (@AlxDnvn) September 26, 2016
I'm hoping Ramsey can play in the wing while Xhaka-Cazorla or Cazorla-Coquelin can be implemented.

Coquelin maybe out 8 weeks, last season nightmare this season ok. Eleney and xhaka perfect cover. Tbh few weeks he'd had lost his spot imo

Still no word on Coquelin? Look, with Ramsey back soon, midfield places will be heavily contested. So, it's very interesting.

What do you think of the news? And what do you make of the reaction by some of the fans?
