It looks like there’s still a chance Bastian Schweinsteiger could be offered a second chance at Manchester United this season after the German midfielder was included in the club’s 25-man squad for this season’s Premier League campaign.
The 32-year-old has been frozen out of all first-team affairs ever since Jose Mourinho arrived as manager, and has spent most of the summer training with the reserve and youth teams.
But after failing to secure a move away from Old Trafford before transfer deadline day on Wednesday night, Schweinsteiger has now been offered a opportunity at redemption after being named in United’s squad, according to the Manchester Evening News.
New signings Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Eric Bailly, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Paul Pogba are also in the squad while the Premier League have confirmed Pogba counts as a ‘homegrown’ player.
But there’s no doubting the headline name, with World Cup winner Schweinsteiger probably dreaming of pulling on the club’s iconic red shirt at least one more time.
Could Mourinho really cause a shock by recalling him?
