Germany’s legendary midfielder’s stock has plummeted so low in recent months that he isn’t even allowed to appear in the club’s squad photo, with the rest of the Red Devils squad having their snaps taken earlier this week.
The likes of Paul Pogba, Wayne Rooney and David de Gea were all in the club colours to pose for photographers at Old Trafford, but Schweinsteiger wasn’t invited.
It appears that his World Cup, Champions League and Bundesliga medals don’t count for anything in the eyes of Jose Mourinho – when you’re out, you’re out.
According to the Manchester Evening News, Mourinho invited twenty five players, his six-man coaching squad and strength and conditioning coach Gary Walker for the shoot, but Schweinsteiger was nowhere to be seen.
The 32-year-old has been training with the club’s under-23 side ever since being told by Mourinho earlier this summer that he was no longer needed.
But this latest omission is just a further kick in the teeth for a player once revered as one of Europe’s best.
What do you make of it all?
