Transfer deadline day managed to come and go without Manchester United adding to the array of expensive stars assembled by Jose Mourinho throughout the summer – but the Red Devils did manage to pull off a pretty important capture to their backroom team.
Having signed Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Eric Bailly and Zlatan Ibrahimovic since arriving in June, Mourinho seems outwardly happy with his team on the pitch, with his players romping to three wins from their first three Premier League matches ahead of next week’s Manchester derby.
But clearly the Special One needed to shake things up behind the scenes after it was revealed he pulled off an unlikely swoop for Atletico Madrid’s chief scout.
According to the Metro, United managed to land Gerardo Guzman from the La Liga giants, who was in charge of finding players under the age of 23 for Diego Simeone’s side.
It’s not clear if Guzman’s role at Old Trafford will be exactly the same or if he’ll be given more leeway over who he targets, but when you consider the talent unearthed by Ateltico over the past five years he could be a very useful member of staff indeed.
How big a transfer could Guzman be? And how big a blow to Ateltico could this turn out to be?
