Mesut Ozil Has His Heart Set on a New Arsenal Squad Number

Mesut Ozil is without question one of the biggest stars at Arsenal, and what he wants he usually gets.

But news that the German World Cup winner wants to swap his squad number could end up in some awkward conversation in the Emirates dressing room – particularly because it’s Jack Wilshere’s No.10 Ozil is after.

Ever since arriving from Real Madrid for £42 million back in 2013, the skillful play-maker was always worn the No.11 jersey, taking it over from previous incumbent Robin van Persie.

But following Wilshere’s move to Bournemouth on loan on transfer deadline day, it seems Ozil wants to make sure hi squad number is lying vacant.

Speaking to the Express, via the SportBible, he said: “For me, the number means a lot. It is my favorite number. Football legends such as Zinedine Zidane, Diego Maradona and Pele have this number. I’m really happy about it.

“I wanted to have the number a few years ago, but so did Lukas Podolski and he had played more matches than me. Now I have access!

“Of course, I’ve previously given those in charge a signal. The number is right for me and my position as playmaker.”

Now, given that Wilshere’s move to the Cherries isn’t a permanent one, and he’ll probably be back next summer, would Arsene Wenger really give away his squad number?

And what about the fans that already own an Ozil shirt with eleven on the back?! Won’t anyone think of the fans?!

What do you think of Ozil’s request?
