As we all know, Messi is the reigning Ballon d’Or holder and undoubtedly one of the greatest players of all-time following a decade dominating European football with Barcelona.
But the Argentine genius started his career back in his homeland with Newell’s Old Boys, who are his hometown club, and who he played with before departing for Spain as a 14-year-old.
Last month, Newell’s president Cristian D’Amico claimed his club were ready to “make history” by signing Messi following the 2018 World Cup in Russia, and it looks as though the club’s supporters have taken his promise to heart.
Before Sunday’s 1-0 win over Tigre, Newell’s supporters sent Messi an impassioned message from the stands:

In the summer of 2018, Messi will be 31 – and definitely young enough to still make an impact in the Argentine Premier League.
But could you ever see him leaving Barcelona?
