Scott Sinclair Thanks Leigh Griffiths For Giving Him Penalty to Break Scoring Record

Scott Sinclair has thanked Leigh Griffiths for giving him the ball to hit the penalty which broke a Celtic record for goals in consecutive league games.

The English winger has really hit the ground running since making a £3million move north from Aston Villa.

Before joining the Hoops, he had found himself frozen out at the English Championship club and hadn’t kicked a ball for them in the opening games of the season.

But he’s done more than kick a ball for Celtic, scoring six goals in six consecutive league games.

Sinclair scored on his debut against Hearts before adding goals against St Johnstone, Aberdeen, Rangers and Inverness ahead of his penalty in Celtic’s 6-1 win over Kilmarnock earlier.

When Griffiths went down in the box he could have been forgiven for taking the penalty himself considering he’s missed some recent games through injury.

But the Hoops goalscorer wasn’t interested and instead handed the ball to Sinclair so he could get his record – breaking Jimmy McGrory’s record of five goals in five consecutive leagues games back in the 1930s.

Grateful

Sinclair thanked Griffiths after the match and believes the gesture is evidence of the strong team spirit within Brendan Rodgers’ side:

Fair play to Griffiths – we’re sure Sinclair wouldn’t have complained had he taken the spotkick.

He only made his return from injury by coming off the bench this afternoon, but got himself a goal anyway as he added Celtic’s fourth of the afternoon.
