UFC Heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic proved that he did not win the title from Fabricio Werdum on a fluke. The champ put down hardened veteran Alistair Overeem late in the first round to retain his title.

Critics had been saying that Miocic only won the title at UFC 198 when Werdum “walked into” one of Miocic’s punches.

Overeem had won the right to challenge after stringing together four victories over top names, three by way of KO.

Cain Velasquez, fresh off of a return win at UFC 200, is likely in line to be Miocic’s next challenger, as he currently sits number 2 overall in the UFC Heavyweight rankings.
