The summer is officially over. Well it is in Scotland. And it is in boxing. As the English schools are spending yet another few weeks lazing about waiting for things to kick off we are off in the boxing world.

September – the beginning of a new season. And what a bleeding season it is going to be…

The UK boxing scene has been buzzing over last year as we got and lost world champions, got to the final of the World Series of Boxing, had the Olympics and had plenty to debate as fights were made and anticipation hyped.

And now the drama is about to begin. September is going to be, however, one hell of a month to beat… It is going to be the month when 2 fights shall tell us just how golden this age of British boxing actually is…

On the 10th we have Kell Brook and Gennady Golovkin in the 02 for WBA, WBC and IBF middleweight belts. On the same bill Lee Haskins and Stuart Hall fight for the IBF bantamweight belt whilst Charlie Edwards takes on Jonriel Casimero for the IBF flyweight title. In one night we have three massive world title fights and GGG on UK soil. The noises out the Brook camp are exceptionally good so the season doesn’t start with a whimper it explodes with a bang.

A mere 7 days later Liam Smith puts his WBO light middleweight belt on the line against Saul Canelo Alvarez in Arlington, the USA. If Brook cannot do the job then we shall be looking to Smith to show that we have gone above the mere mortal in the boxing world. It’s a very tough ask for this Smith brother against a man who sparked out Amir Khan last time round and we have to wonder and worry if this is a step too far for the young lad. The thing is his trainer thinks he can do it, many in the UK boxing scene think he can do it and the city of Liverpool are total convinced he can do it – and you know how determined they can be…

And a mere 7 days later we have Anthony Crolla in Manchester against Jorge Linares for the WBA, WBC Diamond and Ring magazine lightweight titles. Hosea Burton and Frank Buglioni tussle for the British light heavyweight title and a Commonwealth featherweight title fight is on the bill between Isaac Lowe and Tshifhiwa Munyai. It might be the least of the three but it packs a solid punch as Crolla ends the month which should show us how far we have all come in such a short space of time.

I remember when one world title fight every 3 months for British boxers was something to write about – we now have 5 in 3 weeks for no fewer than 9 belts at 5 different weights.

Bring it on…
