Spurs midfielder Dele Alli has admitted that he likes to sing in the shower – and it’s his own chant that he usually likes to hum.
The England international capped an incredible rise to fame over the last 12 months by signing a new bumper six-year contract at White Hart Lane today, keeping him at Spurs until 2022.
His charismatic and eye-catching performances since joining from MK Dons in 2015 have made Alli an instant hit with supporters, who soon rewarded him with his very own stadium chant – which also takes a sly dig at Arsenal hero Mesut Ozil.
And the 20-year-old has revealed that he likes the ditty so much that he often finds himself singing along to it in his own bathroom.
Speaking via the Evening Standard, he said: “It makes the hairs stand up on your arms, it’s unbelievable.
“The fans like that song as well, so do I – it’s a good song, I like it!”
When asked whether he had ever sung the song himself, Alli replied: “In the shower, yeah!”
“I am happy to be here and playing at Tottenham.
“I can’t think of anywhere better with the fans and the manager we have got here and the young team. It is a great place to be.”
In case you’re not entirely familiar with the song Alli is referring to, the lyrics are:
“We’ve got Alli, Dele Alli,
“I just don’t think you understand,
“He only cost five mill,
“He’s better than Ozil,
“We’ve got Dele Alli.”
Brilliant. Up there with some of The Beatles’ early work.
You can hear the tune on regular match-days at White Hart Lane…and if you stand outside Dele Alli’s bathroom window.
